The Challenges of Social Media

Hi Majesties, it's Anje! Your favorite angel is back for the first monthly blog of 2024. Let me wish, once again, a happy new year to all of you — lots of health, wealth, and success! May you realize your wildest fantasies this year! (See my play on words with our new track? Hehe)

With Radium, we started planning many things for 2024. We even made a moodboard and a list of our goals for the new year. A category of goals are about social media exclusively, and the reason is that social media is pretty far from being our forte. However, we've really put in more effort than we've ever done before since last year. Today, I want to talk about the challenges that we’ve encountered in our activities for social media.

Both Ray and I have a private nature. Ray doesn't feel ready yet to fight against it, so you get to see my face more often. I post especially on Instagram, TikTok, and recently Threads. Until now, I've essentially tried to share creative content or relatable memes and montages portraying the dynamic of my friendship with Radium. I used to share my outings and travels, but I'm an introvert, so I actually don't go out often enough to always have interesting things to share. That's why I don't have constant content on social media.

Radium, on the other hand, had the 4W posts for a year and she announced in the previous monthly blog that she'll do those less often from now on. She also likes to share the most random memes in the most random ways and share serious issues going on around the world.

For our promotion as a duo, we initially released covers on YouTube, and after that, we created promotional calendars including many ideas of content that we used to promote our singles last year. We intend to continue that way, but is that enough? My answer is no. And that's why we gave goals to ourselves. Personally, I want to find what type of content I can post that would fit me in a constant way — what type of content can help me and Ray connect with those who will relate to our music, our morals, our personalities, our essence.

One of our main problems is that posting on social media is challenging for the two of us for several reasons:

  • We're limited as a duo because we live on different continents, and most trends or even content, in general, require being in the same room.

  • Feelings of awkwardness, especially at the idea of showing our faces and opening ourselves in posts and videos. One of the reasons why we make music is that we feel the most comfortable to show who we are through it and not through social media.

  • Among the few trends that we find and can do despite the distance, not all of them pique our interest.

  • We lack moments of exchange with others. Content creators often explain the fact that content generates reactions and that those reactions generate more content. That is a virtuous cycle, and we have a hard time finding how to be a part of that cycle. Because without interactions, it is difficult to find how to offer more content.

Nonetheless, Flare is still here. We have many things to try on social media, so we can't give up so soon on our dreams. With all the content that we posted last year we’ve learned and understood several things. I'm even quite excited because I already have a few ideas for our new songs coming out this year and future content that I gotta share with Ray in the first place. I absolutely don't know where I'm going with all that I have in mind, but I'll try my best with Ray so that it can reach the right destination.
