Hey Majesties, Anje here! It’s my turn to write our monthly blog. I was supposed to do it before the beginning of April, but I had to rest a lot for a few weeks. I also didn’t have full internet access, which is why I couldn’t give any news on our social media. Nonetheless, now I’m back stronger than ever, so let’s dive into this blog’s topic!

How do I write song lyrics?

Introduction

I decided to share with you the way I write lyrics for my songs; I thought it would be a good way for you guys to know me a little better.

Ray and I have different ways to do it so I will only speak of my own.

How Did I Find My Way?

I wrote song lyrics for the first time when I was in middle school, to express the feelings that I had inside. Someone told me that I had potential but at the time I was too shy; it felt like someone was reading my secret diary and I felt very uncomfortable. Yet, it wasn’t my main problem. Something was off about my songs. I knew it, but I couldn’t pinpoint it at the time.

Once I was in high school, after writing lyrics for a few more songs, I re-read the lyrics of the songs I wrote back in middle school and that’s when I realized it: all of my songs were only expressing my sadness, my frustration, my anger… I never wrote a happy song, and when I tried, it was simply impossible. Joy was unknown to me, so I was unable to write a song based on an emotion that seemed so far away from me.

From there, I started to reflect on what I wanted to share with those who would listen to my songs, what I wanted them to feel, the message I wanted to spread. I questioned myself about the kind of singer I wanted to become. One answer came to mind, and everything suddenly was obvious: Hope.

I decided that I wanted to give myself and others hope. In my opinion, all of us have the right to believe in the existence of a brighter future. I want to give people the strength to fight for this future to happen. That’s what I want to do with my songs and my voice.

My Inspirations for Lyrics Full of Hope

With lots of practice, I became able to instinctively create melodies in my head. I write my lyrics so that they are in rhythm with the melody I hear. Depending on whether I have a melody in mind before or after, I either create a melody that would fit the story I want to tell or I find a subject or a theme for my song based on my melody.

I always put a piece of me in every song that I write, making sure that my lyrics are able to give courage to those who need it and are willing to listen. One thing I know for sure is that there are way too many people suffering in this world. If they listen to my songs, I want them to know that there’s someone in this world who encourages them and believes in them. I want to give other people the strength to fight for their happiness. When I write songs, I constantly have all those thoughts in mind.

Conclusion

That’s why our duo’s name is Flare and that our motto is “Light up the world”. As the founder of Flare, all of this symbolizes the contribution I hope we’ll be able to bring to the world: a ray of hope, a light at the end of the tunnel. So, watch me, because I’ll write songs that’ll reach your heart.
